News of the Western Belize Recreational Area, about 500 square miles of waterfalls, caves, Mayan ruins and pyramids, Belize Alps, foothills, ranches and farms, tourist accomodations of all types and description, tours and expeditions for vacationers and visitors. Even a small growing expatriate retirement group of people from different countries. In Belize, this is where it is happening, all the things that are fun and even serious, with a climate of ETERNAL SPRING.

Flying the Belizean Flag on Independence day on Toledo district border, with Guatemala, West of Jalacte village.
ROAD WASHOUT FROM JALACTE. CAN'T DRIVE IT YET. LOT OF RAIN IN THAT AREA, ABOUT 300 INCHES A YEAR.
Getting ready for annual Independence day trip to wave the flag on the Guatemalan remote border. Mule train travel.
Local farmers tend to take sacks of corn by mule for the trek across the border, to sell. It being closer in Guatemala than is available at the far a way, district capital of the Toledo District, Punta Gorda. They also visit the local grocery store in nearby Guatemala to buy food stuffs. Which about once a year the Government of Belize send somebody, a policeman, to confiscate when they find it in your home. Not having paid customs duties at a non-existant government post, or presence in this remote area.
Wil Mahier, would be INDEPENDENT political candidate, organizes each year this border presence, in the absence of any government officials, or forces.
