Foreign subsidies and dumping continue to plague Central America and Caricom countries from Europe and the USA
Recent discussions on the Belize Culture Listserve deplored making Belize policy based on promises that are never fulfilled. At heart of the problem is the practice of the European Union and the USA in practising subsidies and other price supports to farmers, that in effect make agriculture crops and their products from their countries sold to Central America and the CARICOM countries at prices lower than the cost of production in those export nations of the EU and USA. These places then DUMP their artificially priced products in Central America and CARICOM countries.
Such unfair trade practices put a burden on food self sufficiency and competitive world trade exporting of our local products in Belize.
