BELIZEANS LOVE THE JAPANESE VOLUNTEERS WORKING IN BELIZE. THEY ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE AND ARE FULL OF ENTHUSIASM, ENERGY AND EXCITEMENT.

The Japanese International Cooperation Agency is assisting the Development of Belize, with a program of young volunteers, as is done by several other countries. Usually in their 20's these are single adventurous Japanese young people seeing the world and taking a volunteer posting for two years. In Belize, we have 22 JOCV volunteers on duty. Mostly in schools, teaching everything from music, to computers. The JICA program from Japan has 15 places available for Belizeans to train in Japan under the 2009 JICA training program. Since the program first started, JICA has sent 80 JOCV Volunteers to Belize and 153 Belizeans have participated in skills training in Japan. Further technical cooperation is available in different fields to do with poverty reduction, environmental protection and disaster management. Mr. Yoshinobu TAKISHITA is the local resident Representative. A recent visit to Japan was had by Belizean Trainees who attended a course on SUSTAINABLE TOURISM DEVELOPMENT at Okinawa, Japan from January and February in 2009.
