Magana Pottery Works of San Jose Succotz, Western Belize, gets new electric kiln.

MAGANA POTTERY WORKS OF SUCCOTZ, Cayo District, Belize

German Magana show us his new electric kiln for pottery making. The three generations of the Magana family are in the business of making archeological replicas and recently switched from the pine splint old ancient Mayan method of making soft baked pottery, to the high temperature electric kiln. Magana says it costs him about $18 Bz to run the kiln for four hours or so, to bake pottery to high temperatures. He is hoping to diversify the pottery works for more durable pottery. When asked about glazes, he said there were none currently available in Belize for sale. He is currently experimenting and trying to teach himself how to do it with the modern equipment.
