NATIVE BELIZEAN GIANT DELICIOUS PAPAYA GOING EXTINCT

FAMOUS BELIZEAN GIANT, DELICIOUS PAPAYA ARE EXTINCT IN THE NORTHERN TWO THIRDS OF BELIZE.

Farmers are lamenting the loss of the native GIANT DELICIOUS PAPAYA, native to Belize.  There just MIGHT be some still in the Southern District of Toledo.  But in Central and Northern Belize, the introduction of small CHINESE varities, grown on plantations with irrigation for EXPORT seem to have replaced, for so long now.   NOBODY ANY LONGER HAS THE NATIVE SEEDS.  The Agriculture Department of the Ministry of Resources, has no SEED BANK to preserve such things.
The markets are inundated with the REJECTS from the EXPORT PLANTATIONS, and since they are cheap, these small papaya have replaced the famous GIANT DELICIOUS NATIVE BELIZEAN PAPAYA.

Can't even find a photograph of a native Belizean Giant papaya now.  All the papaya are Chinese, small papaya, for export in boxes.
