UDP REPORT CARD GOES UP 1% TO 48%

The announcement this week that the opening of the ITVET community college in the port of Belize City completes the ITVET building program from loan funds nationwide is good news. There are now 6 DISTRICT fledgling COMMUNITY COLLEGES around the nation of Belize. Education Minister FABER cut the ribbon. Worthy of 1% increase. The PUP started the program, so no real credit can be given to the UDP.

Another announcement this week, that startled me and was extremely gratifying, was a news program of a NEW HIGH SCHOOL inaugurated by FABER down in the WESTERN TOLEDO DISTRICT. This is a part of the country that is in the high ( 300 inch rainfall ) jungles. Though from the videos on TV things have changed down there. Last time I was down that way, I took my motorsailer then, up the TEMASH RIVER with some tourists to Crique Sarco. My recollections are long ago times. When you went by boat and then walked muddy jungle trails to go from one remote Mayan community to another. Sometimes you had to put your clothes in a plastic bag and swim across a creek. I remember the CHICLE mule trains of back then.
According to recent maps there are a lot of roads now in that remote WESTERN AREA of the TOLEDO DISTRICT in the South of Belize, alongside the Guatemalan border. There also seem to be a lot of new Mayan villages of farmers. A long time to accomplish, but my ancient memories are only of Crique Sarco, Dolores and Otaxa, now there are many more villages in the area.
So many, that this week a HIGH SCHOOL was inaugurated by Education Minister FABER. It was a good TV video. The PRINCIPAL of the HIGH SCHOOL seemed very intelligent. He was saying they have 6 core subjects from the national curriculum, but have added a bunch of others more appropriate to the needs of the emerging MAYA remote areas. Among which are agriculture plots and teaching, entrepreneurial classes and business organization, bookkeeping to run the business and so forth. They are definitely on the right track! Hearing the guy talk, made me feel very PROUD!
I think the new HIGH SCHOOL is privately owned? Not sure about that? So no percentage points for the UDP government on that one then? I cannot really imagine the developments down there. One day this old man is going to have to go down there and see. I wouldn't trust my two wheel drive pickup though, on back country muddy roads. I would think you would need 4 wheel drive? Still I would like to make the tour now. I cannot imagine that area with roads of any kind.

THE NEW REMOTE HIGH SCHOOL IS A PROJECT OF THE ROTARY CLUB OF TYLER, TEXAS. Thankyou from the heart on behalf of ALL BELIZEANS, Tyler community of TEXAS. The name of this new very REMOTE HIGH SCHOOL is COROZAN CREEK TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL starting with 70 students from the surrounding Mayan Indian indigenous villages.
The government of Belize has also contributed to the building of the school. There are 70 starting students and the area is VERY REMOTE on the Toledo Southern District of the Western Border of Belize.
