BUTANE IMPORTERS, THE THREE MAJOR ONES, TOMYA, ZETA AND BWEEL HAVE CLOSED DOWN THEIR SUPPLY OF BUTANE TO DISTRIBUTORS NATIONWIDE.
They claim 80% market share of butane in the nation, through their distributors. The argument is with the government, that will not permit them to make a price increase. The government is saying, they are not in compliance with scales on trucks and in depots by their distributors, according to new laws. Even though the government has allowed several extensions, they are still not legally compliant and government says they will not dialogue with them until they comply with the laws of Belize and provide the scale measuring means for customers to weigh BEFORE and AFTER their butane tanks have been filled. Scandals erupted early this year, when it was proved the companies were SHORTING a third of the butane gas in tanks they filled. These companies were allegedly scamming the public of 30% of their money, each tank filling.
In the meantime, the HONEST competitors are saying they will fill the MARKET SHARE GAP, if these companies wish to go out of business. The three companies in a group are saying they are losing money. Presumably they are losing profits, if they are now selling BUTANE at the mandated prices and no longer skimming 30% profits off bad refills under their old system.
GOODBYE FELLAS! We the public who you robbed, have no sympathy for you. Go bankrupt for all we care.
