CACAO PRODUCTION EXPANDING EXPONENTIALLY IN SOUTHERN BELIZE

TOLEDO CACAO CHOCOLATE INDUSTRY CONTINUES TO GROW, ALMOST EXPONENTIALLY.  SO SAYS ARMANDO CHOC OF SAN PEDRO COLOMBIA.  LUCIANO SHO LEADER OF THE CACAO ASSOCIATION ALSO WAS VERY POSITIVE ON GROWTH FOR TOLEDO PRODUCED ORGANIC CACAO.  CACAO TREES ARE BEING PLANTED AND MEMBERSHIP IS NOW 1190, UP FROM 800 SIX YEARS AGO.
ACREAGE IN CACAO HAS EXPANDED FROM 500 ACRES TO ABOUT 3000 ACRES THIS YEAR.  THE MOST DEMAND ABROAD IS FOR DARK CHOCOLATE.  It is reported 15 companies from North American, Asia and Europe are expressing interest in buying cacao beans from Southern Belize.
